A tour that touches on the places that should not be missed on a first tour of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
DAY 1: TRIESTE
Arrival in Trieste and accommodation in the rooms. Lunch in a typical restaurant in the city centre followed by a meeting with the tour guide for a visit to Italy's most cosmopolitan city. During the guided tour you will see the historic centre, Piazza Unità and Palazzo Stratti, with its ancient Caffè degli Specchi; the beautiful neoclassical buildings of Borgo Teresiano, a commercial nerve centre during the Habsburg era; the Roman ruins; the synagogue and the Orthodox churches. Return to the hotel and meeting with the historical expert for a visit of the ancient palace where the aperitif is served, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2: TRIESTE, THE SAN SABBA RICE MILL AND MIRAMARE CASTLE
After breakfast, meeting with the guide and departure for Muggia, a splendid fishing village, visit to a historic Spugnificio followed by lunch in a typical restaurant. In the early afternoon, departure by minivan/coach for the return to Trieste, passing by Colle di San Giusto to admire the Mitteleuropean city from the other side. Arrival at the Risiera di San Sabba, founded as a factory for processing rice at the end of the 19th century, it was the only concentration camp in Italy equipped with a crematorium. Today it is possible to visit the "Hall of Crosses" where those arrested for racial and political reasons waited to be deported to other concentration camps of the Reich, and the "micro-cells" where Italian, Slovenian and Croatian partisans were held, many of whom were destined for elimination. Continuation to the "Miramare Castle", the romantic castle of Maximilian and Charlotte of Habsburg built directly on the sea. Return to the hotel, dinner in a typical restaurant in the centre and overnight stay.
DAY 3: PALMANOVA, CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI AND COLLIO FRIULANO
After breakfast at the hotel, check-out and departure in a northerly direction towards Cividale del Friuli, a splendid UNESCO World Heritage site, a city founded by Julius Caesar. Guided tour of the city with entrance also to the ancient Longobard Temple. Lunch in a typical restaurant to taste the local products.
On the way back stop in Palmanova, built in 1593 by the Republic of Venice, is a fortress-city preserved in exemplary conditions: a national monument since 1960, in 2017 it became part of the UNESCO World Heritage, walk along the walls and at the end departure for the Collio Friulano. Arrival at the Resort and accommodation in the rooms. (Please note that being an ancient castle the rooms are located in various parts of the estate).
Guided tour of the historic winery known for the production of white wines with aperitif. Dinner at the Castle restaurant and overnight stay.
DAY 4: GRADO AND AQUILEIA
After breakfast luggage in the minivan/coach and departure to Aquileia, a very important city of the Roman Empire and therefore the main centre for the spread of Christianity in Northern and Eastern Europe. It has been a UNESCO site since 1998 for the importance of its archaeological area and the beauty of the floor mosaics in the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, which make Aquileia a sort of capital of western Roman mosaics. At the end of the guided tour departure for Grado a very important link during the Roman Empire to the city of Aquileia, now they are connected by a bridge but at the time only by sea.
Lunch in a restaurant in the centre with fish specialities and then a short walk to admire the old town and the Roman remains. Departure.
