What is to be done?

  • Guided trekking
For three days we will walk in the wilderness of the Friulian Dolomites, guided by an expert connoisseur of the area. We will cross the valleys suspended between the Pramaggiore, Monfalconi, Spalti di Toro and Cridola groups, walking along vertiginous forks and solitary paths winding through mughoos and scree. Every step will be a tale of these rugged and majestic mountains, every panorama an invitation to slow down and breathe deeply. We will experience the mountains with authenticity, far from the crowds, sharing our efforts, smiles and wonder.
  • 2 nights in a mountain hut with half board
After the intense days of walking, the genuine atmosphere of the Pordenone and Padua refuges will welcome us. Here, amidst the scent of wood and the warmth of a simple but authentically flavoured meal, we will regain the energy to set off again. We will dine on traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients, surrounded by the silence of the valleys and breathtaking starry skies. We will sleep in basic but comfortable beds, lulled by the rustle of the wind and the birdsong at dawn.
  • Masterclass Discovering Nature
During the trek, we will have an educational experience that will teach us to read the mountains with new eyes. With the support of the Medium Mountain Guide, we will learn to recognise the delicate alpine flowers, the traces left by wild animals and the infinite nuances of the Dolomite landscape. We will discover how best to organise our rucksack, read the weather forecast and move around safely, minimising our impact on the environment. An invitation to listen to nature with all our senses and to cherish every emotion experienced along the way.

Difficult. This trek is demanding, with significant altitude differences and difficult trails that include exposed and steep passages. It is suitable for experienced and well-trained hikers who do not suffer from vertigo and are prepared to take on demanding challenges.

PROGRAMME:

DAY 1 - FROM THE GIAF REFUGE TO THE PORDENONE REFUGE

+ 980m | - 750m | 5h30 | 10 km

We set off from the Giaf Hut and walk along a stepped path, which, amidst centuries-old larches and broad stony ground, leads us across the majestic scree below the Forcella dei Pecoli. We will skirt the imposing Cima Urtisiel, entering a suggestive gravelly gorge which we will climb patiently, until we reach the panoramic Forcella Urtisiel: from here the world will seem to open up before our eyes.

We will begin our descent between gravel and silence, and along the famous Truoi dai Sclops, we will walk on an aerial and panoramic traverse to the peaceful Casera Valbinon hut. From here, a gentle mule track will accompany us into the green Val Menon, amid lonely pastures and the ancient traces of old farmhouses.

We will continue along the Val Meluzzo for about 3 km, surrounded by fragrant forests and bright glades, until we reach the pass that guards the Rifugio Pordenone. We will thus conclude a splendid day's traverse among the most authentic Dolomites.

We will stop for a picnic lunch along the way. In the evening we will share dinner and an overnight stay at the refuge.

DAY 2 - FROM THE PORDENONE REFUGE TO THE PADOVA REFUGE: UNDER THE CRY OF STONE

+ 1060m | - 1000m | 5h30 | 7.5 km

After breakfast, with our packed lunches in our rucksacks, we will set off towards the second stage of our trek. From Rifugio Pordenone we will follow the path that runs along the imposing walls of the Campanile del Rifugio and Anticima Meluzzo, entering the wild Val Montanaia.

It will be a decisive ascent among scree and changes of slope, which will take us all the way to below the iconic Campanile di Val Montanaia, the absolute symbol of the Friulian Dolomites, where silence mixes with a sense of wonder. We will reach the Perugini Bivouac, immersed in grandiose scenery, and continue to the Forcella Montanaia, a pass suspended between sky and rock.

From here we will descend through scree towards Cadin d'Arade, and then, in an increasingly gentle and wooded environment, we will reach Rifugio Padova, where a regenerating dinner and the warmth of a mountain welcome will await us.

DAY 3 - RETURN TO THE GIAF HUT: THE LAST THRILL BETWEEN THE PEAKS

+ 760m | - 630m | 4h00 | 6.5 km

After breakfast, we will prepare to face the last day of this adventure. From the Rifugio Padova we will enter the green Val Pra di Toro, cross the stream and ascend among mughoes and stony ground, surrounded by the Cridola cliffs and the jagged walls of the Monfalconi di Forni.

At a steady pace we will reach the Forcella Scodavacca, a panoramic pass set between high rocky walls. Once past the fork, we will be greeted by the grandiose landscapes dominated by the Spinotti Tower and the Antonio Berti Tower, as we begin our return to the forest.

We will follow the edge of the Giaf Torrent, first along an easy forest road, then along a more intimate path, until we again reach the Giaf Refuge. Here, amidst smiles and glances that already smell of nostalgia, we will conclude our adventure with a convivial lunch, exchanging our last goodbyes and cherishing in our hearts the authentic beauty of the Friulian Dolomites.
