Dates:

  • 27 - 30 July
  • 10 -13 September

Where:

Forni di Sopra, UD

What is to be done?

  • Guided trekking
We will walk along wild and little-trodden paths for four days, accompanied by an expert guide who will reveal the secrets of the Friulian Dolomites. We will cross hidden valleys and majestic forks, touching on the Pramaggiore, Monfalconi, Spalti di Toro and Cridola groups. Each day will be a journey between dolomite walls that turn colour at dawn and fiery sunsets that close our exertions. We will walk immersed in a regenerating silence, far from mass tourism, rediscovering the value of sharing and an authentic contact with the mountains.
  • 3 nights in a mountain hut with half board
Every evening we will be welcomed by authentic refuges that preserve the flavour of the mountains of yesteryear. Amidst the warmth of wood and the aromas of Friulian cuisine, we will enjoy simple and genuine dishes, with a conviviality that warms the heart after a long day's walk. We will toast the day we have just experienced under starry skies and wake our senses in the morning with the aroma of coffee and a breakfast that will give us the energy to face new horizons. Here, luxury is simplicity, the essentials that taste of home.
  • Masterclass Discovering Nature
Along the way, the guide will lead us in an immersive masterclass to learn how to read the mountain in all its details. We will recognise animal tracks, alpine flowers that resist the wind and lichens that colour the rock. We will learn to orient ourselves with nature, to read the weather, to manage resources during a trek and to leave a light footprint on the territory. Through moments of deep listening, we will let ourselves be guided by the sounds of nature, rediscovering the harmony that comes from walking in silence and awareness.

Difficult. This trek is demanding, with significant altitude differences and difficult trails that include exposed and steep passages. It is suitable for experienced and well-trained hikers who do not suffer from vertigo and are prepared to take on tough challenges.

PROGRAMME:

DAY 1 - ON THE GENTIAN TRAIL: FROM THE GIAF HUT TO THE FLAIBAN HUT - PACHERINI

+ 1350m | - 820m | 6h30 | 11 km
Our journey will begin at the Giaf Refuge, immersed in the quiet woods above Forni di Sopra. From here we will set out along the enchanting Truoi dai Sclops, the Sentiero delle Genzianelle (Gentianelle Path), which will take us through fairytale settings: we will reach Forcella Urtisiel, cross the vast Valmenon plateau, and let ourselves be inebriated by the colours and scents of the Campuros alpine meadow, a true summer paradise.
We will continue past Forcella Brica and the striking Forcella dell'Inferno, descending gently into the upper Val di Suola, lulled only by the sounds of wild nature. At the end of the day we will be welcomed by the Flaiban-Pacherini Refuge, surrounded by imposing spires and deep silence.
We will stop for a picnic lunch along the way. In the evening, we will share dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

DAY 2 - BETWEEN VALLEYS AND FORCELLINI: TOWARDS THE PORDENONE REFUGE

+ 500m | - 880m | 3h30 | 7.8 km
After breakfast, we collect our packed lunches and set off towards the Suola Pass. From here we will go further, crossing the Forcella Rua Alta and the Forcella Pramaggiore, immersed in a landscape that alternates between wide views and narrow valleys.
We will then continue into the green Val dell'Inferno - which, despite its name, will only reveal beauty - until we reach the lush Val Postegae. At the end of the day we will find refreshment at the Rifugio Pordenone, set in a landscape of extraordinary harmony between rock and forest.
Packed lunch on the way, dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

DAY 3 - MEETING THE GIANT: TOWARDS THE VAL MONTANAIA BELL TOWER AND THE PADOVA REFUGE

After breakfast, with our packed lunches in our rucksacks, we begin our adventure towards the legendary Val Montanaia. We will soon find ourselves at the foot of the Campanile di Val Montanaia, an imposing monolith that rises like a stone cry, leaving us breathless before its majesty.

We cross the Forcella Montanaia (or, alternatively, the easier Forcella Segnata) and begin our descent through landscapes sculpted by time, until we reach the Rifugio Padova, nestled between the severe peaks of the Spalti di Toro and the Cridola.

Packed lunch along the route, convivial dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.

DAY 4 - IN THE HEART OF THE MONFALCONS: THE RETURN TO THE GIAF REFUGE

+ 760m | - 630m | 3h45 | 6 km
After a last breakfast at the refuge, with a packed lunch in our rucksack, we will begin an unforgettable traverse into the wild heart of the Monfalcon range. We will ascend towards Forcella Monfalcon di Forni, dominated by the austere walls that guard the solitary Bivacco Marchi-Granzotto bivouac, a silent sentinel of a timeless rocky amphitheatre. We will then cross Forcella del Cason to return to Rifugio Giaf, where our adventure will end, leaving indelible views in our eyes and emotions in our hearts that we will carry with us for a long time.

For those who would like an easier return, we can climb up to Forcella Scodavacca and close the route on more comfortable paths. And for the more experienced, the last challenge will be the ascent to Tacca del Cridola and, for those who wish to go further, to the alpine peak of Cridola.
We will return independently, with the most precious baggage: that of memories
